Who This Policy Applies To
This privacy policy applies to visitors of simoncallaghan.dev ("the Site"), operated by Simon Callaghan, a UK-based independent AI-led developer. If you contact me via the Site's contact form or by email, this policy also describes how I handle your communication data.
Information I Collect
The Site is built as a static portfolio with no user accounts, no tracking databases, and no third-party analytics services. The information collected is minimal:
Contact Form Submissions
If you submit an enquiry via the contact form, I collect: your name, email address, and the content of your message. This information is used solely to respond to your enquiry and is not stored in any persistent database — it is sent directly to my email address via a server-side contact handler.
Server Log Data
Standard server logs record: the pages you requested, your IP address (partially redacted in line with UK GDPR data minimisation principles), the date and time of your request, and your browser's user agent string. This data is used solely for diagnosing technical issues and is retained for a maximum of 30 days.
Third-Party Services
The Site uses Google Fonts to serve custom typography. Google Fonts may receive your IP address as part of normal font delivery. This constitutes a data processing arrangement under UK GDPR. If you do not wish your IP address to be shared with Google Fonts, you may block Google Fonts using a browser extension such as uBlock Origin.
Cookies and Local Storage
The Site uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site. This uses a single HTTP cookie (_ga) that is set only after you give explicit consent via the cookie banner shown on your first visit. No analytics data is collected before consent is given.
What Google Analytics records (when you consent)
- Which pages you visit and in what order
- How long you spend on each page
- Which device and browser you're using
- Which country or region you're in (approximate, not precise)
Your IP address is anonymized before it leaves your browser (the last octet is removed). Google Analytics cannot identify you personally from this data.
The Site does not use Google Ads, remarketing, or any marketing tracking features.
Cookie consent
On your first visit, a banner asks whether you'd like to accept analytics cookies. Your preference is stored in your browser's localStorage for one year. You can change this at any time by clicking the "Cookies" button in the bottom-right corner of the site.
Other localStorage usage
The Site uses localStorage for one additional purpose: storing your colour theme preference (light/dark) if you use the theme toggle. This is a functional preference with no privacy implications — it cannot be used to identify you.
How I Use Your Information
Contact form submissions are used to respond to your enquiry. Your information is not shared with any third party, not used for marketing purposes, not added to any mailing list, and not retained beyond the duration of our communication unless you instruct otherwise.
Server log data is used solely for technical diagnostics and security monitoring. It is not shared with any third party and is automatically deleted after 30 days.

Data Security
The Site is served over HTTPS (TLS 1.3), encrypting all data in transit between the server and your browser. The hosting infrastructure uses industry-standard security measures including firewall protection, regular security patching, and DDoS mitigation.
Contact form submissions are transmitted directly to my email handler and are not stored in any intermediate database that could be compromised.
Links to Third-Party Sites
The Site may contain links to external websites (for example, GitHub, LinkedIn). This privacy policy applies only to simoncallaghan.dev. When you click through to external sites, the privacy policies of those sites apply.
Changes to This Policy
